This pair of beautifully hand-crafted earrings was created to honor Chien-Shiung Wu. Chien-Shiung Wu (吳健雄) was a Chinese American particle and experimental physicist who made significant contributions in the fields of nuclear and particle physics. One of Wu’s significant contributions, including making the first confirmation of Enrico Fermi's theory of beta decay. Her book Beta Decay, published in 1965, is still a standard reference for nuclear physicists.
This earrings features the Rutherford-Bohr model of the atom with a nucleus in the center. Beta decay occurs when, in a nucleus with too many protons or too many neutrons, one of the protons or neutrons is transformed into the other.
